This is an excerpt from the book: Fight the Good Fight by Carole Rucci
These verses tell us to be, “strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” God has given us His whole armor with which to cover ourselves so that having done all, we will be able to stand firm against the onslaught of the enemy. Jesus IS the armor of God, and what we are doing by putting on the whole armor, is putting on Jesus. (put off the old man and put on Christ, Jesus.)
We are instructed to:
GIRD OUR LOINS WITH TRUTH- Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS – We have been mad the righteousness of God in Christ.
SHOD OUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE -Jesus is that peace. He said, “My peace I leave you.” He was the peace offering that reconciled God and man. Prepare yourself with the good news of Jesus.
PUT ON THE SHIELD OF FAITH -Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Jesus is the Living Word who gives us faith. Jesus is our faith.
TAKE THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD -Jesus is the Living Word. He also used the written Word to defeat the enemy in the desert. the Word of God is the solution to every problem besetting the Christian–in fact, not only the Christian, the world!
Finally, we are to PRAY WITH ALL PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION IN THE SPIRIT FOR THE SAINTS: Pray for the whole body of Christ, and never give up on any of your loved ones. God never does, and He can do the impossible. Keep claiming them for the Kingdom of God. If you have the gift of tongues, use it as the Spirit gives utterance.
OUR WEAPONRY -THE WORD OF GOD
Remember that intercessory prayer and spiritual wafare are not the same thing. You must first be saturated in prayer before doing warfare. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert He used scripture to resist him, thereby giving us the example to follow–as He always did. If you have decided to FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT you should be prepared.
You may be in a position at present where you feel you do not have enough faith to really put up a good fight. Possibley you do not. In Romans 10:17 Paul says, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”.
